Updating Your Wardrobe With A Sheath Dress

In fashion, a sheath dress is often a straight, fitted cut, often with no flair, gathered at the waist with no puff at the top of the body. When building the dress, either the skirt and bodice are lined separately or by joining the skirt to the bodice, usually by sewing the pleated skirt to an underlying plain or ribbon edging. This may be either attached or detachable at the knees or hips. A well-designed sheath dress has a tailored elegant appearance. Many brides choose to have several sheath dresses made for them.

A sheath dress has many variations. The term sheath refers to any number of dresses, including a sheath dress for a woman’s wedding day to a business suit. The term sheath dress also includes camisoles and v-necked cardigans. Many designers these days are creating a more relaxed version of the sheath dress; called a soft sheath, it has a more casual elegance. Soft sheath dresses are made with a cotton blend, chiffon, or silk.

A sheath dress should never be worn without another type of undergarment. Typically, the gown should be a comfortable fit, and the undergarment should be breathable and lightweight, such as silk or cotton blend. For a more casual look, a pair of high quality jeans is appropriate. If attending a party or social event, chinos or shorts should be avoided as they will only make you look like you are trying too hard. It is important to have shoes that are appropriate for the occasion. For evening events, pumps or sandals are appropriate.

Most styles of sheath dresses are fairly versatile and can be worn with almost anything. It is advisable, however, to choose a style that will flatter your body type. For instance, sheath dresses for pear shaped women may not look flattering on women with larger hips and thighs. Likewise, dresses for full figured women must always be made in smaller sizes, regardless of your height. This is to prevent the dress from flowing around your body and looking untidy.

Some designers specialize in a particular style of sheath dress. For example, Bob Hale designed a line of sheath dresses specifically for plus size women. These are known as the “New Sheath” line. The designer also has lines for petite women and prom and cocktail style sheath dresses.

Today’s sheath dresses are designed to be as versatile as possible. They come in a wide variety of colors, so you are sure to find one that will work for just about any occasion. There are designs that can be worn with many different outfits, so you are certain to look your best no matter what you are wearing. A sheath dress can really give an instant update to your wardrobe, making you look fresh and fashionable.
